As the de-facto “King of the Faeries”, Chêne is at once incredibly like their much-younger kin, and also could scarcely be more different. Much like many elder fae, they appear rather stoic, not bound by human desires or even morality—but still with a streak of the mischievousness the fae are known for. Yet, unlike most of their kind, they are fueled by a rapacious curiosity, devoting their life to endless study so that they may one day gain all the world’s knowledge. But despite how they wish to present themselves, ultimately they are very much bound by the humanity they claim to be above.

~Background~
༻✧༺
Chêne is very unique amongst the fae: they are one of the last remaining creatures alive from before the Great Fire, which had burnt down the original generation of creation—the generation born before Death. After the Great Fire, in the ashes of what was, they were discovered by Mère Terre and Maiden Moon, the latter of whom they became infatuated with immediately. After their short time spent together, they wanted her to remain in their life forever; but they were a mere tree, and she the very Moon itself: it was never meant to be.
After Mère Terre began repopulating the Earth, Chêne grew very curious about the new vibrant ecosystems she made, running on a cycle of life and death, and they devoted their time to learning about this new world. When it seemed they learned all that they could, however, something extremely curious happened: a necklace in the shape of their beloved Moon was thrust on their branches. Once humans began settling their homeland, they knew they had to begin living life largely under the guise of a human so that they could have access to humanity’s vast stores of knowledge, more than they could ever accumulate on their own…and maybe, if they were just lucky enough, they might discover a way to reconnect with Maiden Moon.
